Holiday thoughts on music
In Normandy, France right now. It took me quite some time to really relax. But I’m there. I took my computer with me to compose whenever I feel like it and I did some work. Ever since I started making my own music I feel music has become my playground. And hearing Jacob Collier two times live was also a hugo inspiration.
Right before summer I started taking improvisation lessons with Efraim Trujillo. Since my chemo my musical vision has become so much broader. Now my chops need to be become more encompassing as well.
I started something new, or actually, I started going back to what I like about music. Why am I making music; What is it I want to communicate; Where is my own musical horizon; How can make personal music without worrying about what other people think?
Before The Conservatory of Amsterdam I was a musical everything-eater. During also, but I didn’t introduce it in my playing. Now I am looking to express myself to the fullest I can in my music.
Not that I am unsatisfied with what I did before! I had a great career so far. I toured the whole world, played in all of the concert halls and did many different things. I got a lot of experience playing the best music in the world. And now it’s time for change.
Oh and if you want to hear this, come to my concert at the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw on August 26: https://www.muziekgebouw.nl/agenda/12402/PEAX/RESET
